Energy ratings are now forming a considerable role in the preliminary design phase of new homes. Energy ratings are a tool to describe how much energy your home needs to sustain a comfortable temperature, in particular; heating and cooling.
In Australia we rate the design of housing for energy efficiency on a scale of 0 (worst) to 10 (best) Stars via the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS). The national average is 6.2 stars.
The current minimum for newly built homes is 6 Stars. But there is plenty of evidence that we now need to be building towards 7.5 to 8 Stars in many climate zones in order to deliver optimal environmental, social and economic benefits for households.
iSustain is seeking Expressions of Interest to anyone living in Australia to have a home audit carried out.
We look to provide a detailed report to show the homeowner what their energy rating is and why.
